Why We Love Sports

We love sports, just as I’m sure most of you do.  The only thing better than playing sports myself is watching my kids play.  It’s an amazing feeling seeing your kids play in a team and do well.  With five kiddos you can bet that we have had our fair share of sad games, and bumps and bruises.

The memories that sticks out to me the most are when my oldest was playing pewee football.  As I’m sure most of you know football is pretty big in the south.  In Texas it’s  life, religion  and a beast all it’s own.  Even the pewee football team practices 4-5 days a week, rain, cold, or blistering heat. They even teach the boys how to go an entire game with minimum water. (no bathroom breaks)  What I’m trying to say is that it’s hard, these young boys give everything they have to the game and each other.
The time that had me reaching for the Kleenex (wouldn’t the above image look great on a custom box of Kleenex?!)  was when they went undefeated the entire season.  We have a Super Bowl and everything.  They won EVERY game, it’s important to note that the prior season the same team of boys only won one game.  The pure joy coming from these boys and coaches was so evident I couldn’t hold the tears back.  It made all the practices, bumps, sweat and pain worth it.
I still tear up just thinking about it.
Working together toward a common goal is such an undeniable character builder. While on one hand it’s very scary to watch your baby get hit and ran over on the field.  (The trip to the ER his first game was real enjoyable, but that’s a different post)  On the other hand there is a sense of pride when he jumps back up from a hit ready to take more.  For all of the things that sports have and continues to  teach our kids (and of-course the physical benefits) we love having our children involved in sports.

  1. What a sweet story about your son’s football team victory! I can’t wait for my own boys to be part of team as I sit in the sidelines with a box of kleenex 🙂 I love the idea of designing your own box! Heading over to the Kleenex website right now!

  2. I agree! So sweet!! Great post, my friend!! ;o)

Awwww! Such a sweet story! If the Cubs ever win the World Series I will need a truckload of Kleenex! LOL

  4. Amazing post Kadie! So touching, and your son looks elated! Proud momma Kleenex moment indeed! Love this!

Awww! Kadie, I wish I could come watch a game in Texas!! And that is so cool that you can design your own box! My Kleenex box is literally the only item on my desk that’s not work-related, I don’t have room for frames or knickknacks. So that would be a great way to have something personal at my desk for a change!!

  6. I think it’s legally required for all boys in TX to play football! LOL I am so NOT looking forward to that with my son if he plays.

  7. Love that pic!!
