Living in the south there are a few things I have started to pick up on. Lately I have fallen in love with monograms, they are a true staple in the south. Monograms can be feminine with a lot of swirls and thin lines.
With Father’s Day coming up I wanted to find a monogram that had a more masculine feel. Of course you need something to add the monogram to so I thought a metal cup would be the perfect canvas.
First you need to find a font that has a masculine look. In Cricut Design Space I found the font called this font does cost. We are using outdoor vinyl for our cup, outdoor vinyl is the best thing to use on anything that will be getting wet often. You still shouldn’t put this in a dishwasher however it should be fine with hand washings.
Start by cutting and weeding your monogram with the Cricut. If you are unfamiliar with monograms you will want to make the middle letter the first letter of your last name and it should be the largest letter. The first letter will be the first letter of your first name and the third letter will be the first letter of your middle name.
Weed out all the pieces you don’t need, and cut a piece of transfer tape similar in size to your monogram.
Transfer tape is how you get your vinyl from the paper backing to your item while still keeping it straight and spaced the way you want it.
Peel the backing off the transfer tape and carefully place it over the monogram. I find it easiest to put the bottom of the biggest letter on a line in the transfer tape. This way it is easy to line up on your cup to make sure it is straight.
Peal the transfer tape and vinyl off the paper backing at a 45 degree angle.
Fold the non-sticky side of the tape together and make a crease with your finger. This is to make finding the center of your image easier. I like to make a finger crease at the top and bottom, this makes it easier to make sure that my image is centered and straight.
Because the metal cup is round I find it easiest to place the cup between my legs. I know it doesn’t make for a pretty pic but this really is the easiest way to keep the cup from rolling and make everything straight.
After you have placed your vinyl use the squeegee to smooth out any air bubbles and make sure it is all adhered well. Working from the center of your image and moving out is the best way to get rid of any air bubbles.
Peal the transfer tape off at a 45 degree angle to keep from pealing off the vinyl.
If you have any leftover air bubbles you can work them out with your squeegee.
There you have it, a nice monogramed cup great for any man in your life. Remember Father’s Day is coming up soon, hint, hint.
