Crochet Owl Security Blanket and Something New

If you remember, I gave my self a bit of a break in August.  I felt like this was necessary because I wanted to spend time with my kiddos before they headed back to school.  Now we are into a new month, the three oldest are in school, and life is back to normal… kind of.

Why I thought it would be easier with only to two at home, I’m not sure.  I mean it’s quieter for sure.  However the older ones were pretty good at entertaining the little ones,  so I could get my house work and things done.  Now they think I need to entertain them instead of work.

Because of this I have been rethinking what I am doing here on the blog. Please don’t get me wrong, I LOVE MY BLOG!  It is a huge outlet for me.  However, I don’t want my kids growing up with memories of Mom always at the computer.
So, I am going to start scheduling the blog more around my life instead of the other way around.

To that end I am making my self a blogging schedule.  For those of you who know me well this isn’t my style AT. ALL.  However, I’m really excited about the new schedule!

The week should go as follows.

Miscellaneous Monday  ( post mostly about home and family but anything is up for grabs)
Tutorial Tuesday (mommy tutorial day)
Wacky  Wednesday (tutorials and ideas for the little ones.  From fun lunches to crafts to books)
Link It Up Thursday (Linky party will post on Thursday like always.)
I don’t like to post on the weekend.  It’s family time around here.:)

Throw in a little cleaning, laundry, and extra screaming kiddos and this is pretty much what we do everyday. It’s random, crafty, and hopefully fun.

So for Miscellaneous Monday:

I really hesitated in even showing how this turned out.  But in the interest of keeping it real, here it is.  My owl security blanket {that looks more like a cat.}  It’s okay you can laugh, we sure did.

Part of the reason that I was hesitant in showing this, is that I didn’t love the pattern I bought for it.  I found it slightly unclear and I don’t feel like my item came out the same as shown in the pattern.
I know how hard it is to write a pattern and how much time they take.  I want to make sure I’m being honest here and that if I recommend a pattern it’s for no other reason than I LOVE it.
In all fairness the pattern author did post an updated revised pattern with corrections to the original {after I made this one}.
I haven’t had an opportunity to look it over yet, but evidently I wasn’t the only one that had a hard time.

My son ,who I made it for, loves it so that’s all that matters at the end of the day.
Wyatt named him Owley , yes we are super imaginative when it comes to names.  If you would like to check out the pattern, you can find the revised version from One and Two Company here.

We’ll see you for TUTORIAL TUESDAY tomorrow!

  5. i love it!!! it is super cute
my little one would love one of those!!!

  6. I think the snuggle blanket looks great…the owl has a little personality. And I love what you said about scheduling your blog around your life instead of the other way around – that is a good way to look at it. Have a wonderful week 🙂

  7. Aww…I think it came out cute! Like the new schedule, too!

  8. I’m having the same trouble with my youngest now that the older one is in school. She doesn’t know what to do with herself! Good for you for coming up with a schedule that works around your family. And I totally think that looks like an owl not a cat! Sometimes we are our own worst critics 🙂

  9. Cranberry Morning says:

That is a cute little owl! I would think that every little kid would love this. 🙂

  10. I LOVE OWLS! This little guy is super cute!

  11. I think it is SO cute! I love the colors and the craftmanship looks great. Now I want one…

  12. If I remember correctly, you said you are not a crocheter, or much of one or something like that. YOU LIED! This is a complicated piece you have crocheted and looks like you did it very well. So come on out of the closet Kadie. You are hooked. Boo

  13. Lesley at Fabulously Flawed says:

Wow! That’s spectacular…I see why Wyatt loves it!

  14. I’m just teaching myself to crochet, so this to me is amazing, and had you not told me you thought it looked like a cat I wouldn’t have thought that. 😉 I think its cute!

  15. I think it turned so cute. I don’t think that it looks like a cat at all MOM

  16. Super cute. It looks like an owl, no worries. Sometimes Owls look a bit like cats though. In the Swedish language we even have an owl breed named “Catowl”.
Great little security blanket. My little girl liked having her blankies over her face when sleeping which made me worry about her breathing, but this has holes so it would be perfect.

  17. I think it turned out lovely, too! It’s adorable. And I totally understand about having to schedule blogging time. I did that recently and it has saved me so much time and stress. I just needed to get organized, and then I was amazed at how it allowed the creativity to flow!

  18. Thanks again for sharing at Hookin On Hump Day! Do you know that even though you weren’t so happy with how this turned out, it is tied for the 3rd most-clicked link at the party this week?! So, see, we all think it’s great!
