Things have been a little crazy around here lately. There has been so much going on with the house and kids that I haven’t had much time to even turn on my computer….which, honestly, just happens sometimes. It has been a great, if busy, couple of weeks. I’m so excited, the kitchen table benches I have been wanting to build for almost a year are built and painted.
One of the best things that happened lately was that my parents came to visit. My mom usually comes to visit at least once a year. My dad, being a farmer, isn’t able to come as often. However when one of the kids has some really special happen they both make a point of coming to support them.
So this visit mom & dad were able to come. Not only is it awesome to see both of my parents, but my dad is always happy to help me with my projects.
Building the kitchen table benches was something that scared me a little. I *thought* I could do it on my own…..but I have NEVER build anything all on my own. So having my dad here to help me and give me some tips was priceless.
We were able to buy all our materials, and build both 8 feet long benches in one day. They really were straight forward to build. You can find the plans at Ana White.com.
We did do a couple of things differently. The original plans were for a 12 foot long bench, my kitchen table isn’t that long so we just measured the table and made the bench a good length for the table. Also the original plans had these benches more as a decoration or something to sit and put shoes on. Because there are going to people siting on these all the time and kids wiggling and moving. We thought they might need some extra support. So we added gussets to the ends and a support in the middle. We had 4 adults sitting on the benches and they are totally solid. No way these benches are going to sag or break.
I’m really excited about them and can’t wait to get them painted. If you have been following me on instagram or facebook I’m sure you have noticed I am re-finishing our kitchen table. The benches and table are going to be perfect together! Each project seems to make me love my home a little more.
