5 Different Types of Furniture Painting

I have been looking over some of the things I want to do in the house. {Besides, the floors) I think something that will make a big impact without costing a lot of money will be to refinish some of the furniture we already have.

I have a few pieces of furniture that I have been wanting to re-finish….for some reason I have been very afraid of getting started.  Well it’s time to get over the fear and jump in.

There are a lot of different ways to re-finish furniture.  Today I’m focusing on painting furniture.

Specifically 5 ways of painting furniture.

5 Types of Furniture Painting

1 ~ Chippy Paint Finish.  This is one of my favorite types of paint finish.  To achieve this you stain your piece of furniture first then use a milk paint over the top and let it chip off.  This tutorial from Ana White explains the process very well.

2 ~ Painting over Laminate furniture.  A lot of my pieces of furniture have laminate on them so, this tutorial from Live Love DIY is going to come in very handy.  She shows each step very clearly and her pieces turn out beautifully.

3 ~ Disstressing Furniture.  You can have a heavy distress or a light distress.  You sand down spots on the piece of furniture to mimic years of use.  The goal is to see the wood or another color of paint “peeking” from under the top coat of paint.  These two posts are great tutorials, from Lovely Etc. and Crafaholics Anonymous.

4 ~ Metal Painting. I love this idea, picking up some old metal folding chairs and painting them some fun colors.  This tutorial by Rustoleum on Hometalk shows just how to do it yourself.

5 ~ Two Tone Painting.  Painting something two different colors. I love the way Centsantional Girl painted this piece the two tone is so subtle but still noticeable.

So tell me which one is your favorite?
