(if you are looking for LINK IT UP THURSDAY click here)

'Twas the month before Christmas
And all throughout blog land
Were patterns and recipes,
Ornaments and cake stands.

Your favorite bloggers
Were busy as could be
Making projects and tutorials
For all to see.

Then we got an idea
For something to do
To make the holidays brighter
For one of you

All year round
You bring us such joy
Why not give one reader
A special Christmas "toy?"

We thought and we thought
Till our brains were quite tired
Then it came to us,
"A Kindle Fire!"

We all joined together,
Now today is the day
So get in your entries
For this special giveaway!

Amy @ One Artsy Mama

Snowman in a Bottle

I totally loved these ornaments I saw last year.  {I tried to find the link at the blog I found them at originally, I couldn't find the post any more, but here is the pin if you want to try to search it out.}

I love them so much because here in the south we don't get to have things like snowmen.  Even if we do get snow it only lasts for a day, two at the most, and then our snowmen look like a big melted mess.

So, today when I was thinking of things to put in bottles, jars, and vases for my mantel this ornament came back to me.  I thought why not put the snowman in a bottle.  And so the Snowman in a Bottle was born.

He is so easy and fun to make.

You will need.

  • Epsom salt
  • googly eyes
  • black, red, and yellow or orange felt
  • bottle or jar
  • wooden dowel {optional}
I used scented salt and unscented.  To be honest the scented salt isn't a true white that's why I added the unscented in as well.

Fill your bottle/jar 3/4 of the way full.  Use a funnel or take it outside if you don't have a funnel.

Cut out your hat, nose and scarf.  I just eye balled these they don't need to be perfect.

Roll up your pieces and put them in the bottle.

Use a wooden dowel to move your pieces around until you are happy with how they look.

So fun and easy.  Then laugh at the kiddos while they try to figure out how you got a snowman in the bottle. {it's the little things that make being a mom so much fun. ha,ha}

Thanks for stoppin' by and hangin' out.

I will be linking up at these wonderful parties.

Mikarose Dress Giveaway

Have you heard of Mikarose?  If you haven't I'm so excited to be the one to let you know about them.

"Mikarose is a clothing company that specializes in modest, elegant and fashionable dresses. Our company's idea evolved when the owners realized how difficult it was to find modest dresses in today's market. We are sure you have had similar experiences when looking for a modest dress. After many frustrating outings, we formed Mikarose. Our goal is to provide an extensive line of modest dresses, without having to sacrifice style. You will be able to wear our line to a broad range of functions: from everyday events to corporate parties. We hope to not only meet the needs of women looking for modest wear, but all those who are seeking elegant dresses."

I like to dress modestly, however I don't want to look like an old woman just yet.  I am also church goer, and it can be hard to find something modest that is fashionable as well.  Having 5 kiddos I am forever fighting with at least one of them, to sit down or be quiet. Sad, but true.

So to say I was excited to try out a Mikarose dress would be a huge understatement!

I chose to review the Avery in pink.  And I have to say I just LOVE it!  It's trendy, cute, and still modest.  It's long enough in the hem line that I don't have to worry about showing anything I don't want to. And  the neckline is high enough that even if I'm fighting with one of my kids to sit down they can't pull the neckline down to far.  In a word, perfect!

Here are a couple of my other favorite things Mikarose offers.

All the dresses are beautiful.

They also have gorgeous tops and skirts.

I think I could happily wear them ALL.

And now for the really exciting part of the post.  Mikarose is giving one of you lovely readers a $50 credit to their site!  This giveaway is open to US and Canada. (yay Canadians!).  It will run for one week from 11-26 to 12-03 midnight est.  If you can't wait, they are have the lowest prices of the year going on today 11/26 until midnight.

Rafflecopter will walk you through the entries.  Good Luck to you all.

Tophatter, Auction Site

Tophatter is a really fun, virtual, real time auction site.  You can buy just about anything there.  They have several auctions going on everyday, and they each have their own theme.  Like jewelry, supplies, handmade, designer, or the daily bazaar just to name a few.

It's totally addicting to hear the little gavel and see the prices go up especially when you are in the middle of the bidding war. You have your own avatar that goes to the auction and raises her/his auction paddle every time you bid.  When you win an auction she/he jumps up and down, because they are just as excited to win as you are. It is all in real time and live on your computer. You can increase the bid in increments of $2,with a click of your mouse. {the price shown for the item doesn't include shipping.} The auctioneer is there as well, sometimes the seller of an item is there sometimes they even offer extras if the price gets high enough.  Or, they are just there to answer any questions anyone may have about their item.

The blue circle lets you know that that is your avatar right in the middle of the action.

I was lucky enough to win the bid for a Silk Cashmere shawl/scarf. I haven't gotten it yet but I'll post a photo when I do.

I also got these earrings for a steal!  My dentist even asked me where I got them the other day, he thought they were real turquoise   When I told him they only cost me $4 (I was the only one who bid on them) he was shocked and told me I shouldn't tell people that, because no one would guess they cost so little.

You can go through the list of things being auctioned off at the beginning of each auction, read the description, see the shipping price, and the opening bid price.  You can even set up an alert for yourself.  Tophatter will send a text message to your phone a couple of minutes before the item you are interested in comes up. The alerts are really easy to set up, you just have to enter the phone number you want the text to go to.  So, you don't have to be tied to your computer waiting for your item to come up, if you don't want to be.  However chatting with the other auction addicts and seeing what other items go for is a big part of the fun for me.

You do have to pay your invoice (paypal only) right away, because you can't bid on other items until your invoice is paid.  Trust me, most likely something else will come up that you will want to bid on.

Tophatter is even being kind enough to offer EACH reader, of Seven Alive all Livin' in a Double Wide, a $10 credit when they sign up for Tophatter and spend $11 on an auction.  Just click on this link to take you to the sign up page.

Have you discovered the addictive new auction site called Tophatter, where buyers bid for sellers’ unique goods in fast-paced virtual auction rooms? From crafts and DIY projects, to antiques, jewelry, home décor and much more, there’s no limit to what you can discover on Tophatter.

With live auctions every day, sellers get to showcase their wares from around the world to a community of thousands of buyers, and answer questions via chat as the clock ticks down. Each lot sells in an average of two minutes, so buyers must bid quickly!

Tophatter’s auctions become interactive live events where buyers and sellers can hang out, chat, and win. Led by the esteemed Sir Wendell Wattington and his animated family, Tophatter auctions keep the fun rolling in.

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Tophatter. The opinions and text are all mine.
