Pin It Friday

In the interest of  keeping my sanity over the summer months I am changing my schedule up a little.  Fridays are now going to be a pinterest day.  A day where I can show you a few of the things I fell in love with this week.

And because I am off to get a root-canal in a couple of hours (have I ever mentioned how much I dislike going to the dentist?) I am sharing some happy thoughts.

And somethings to keep the kids busy and happy for a while.  Nothing better than free Disney coloring pages.

Or these sock bubbles!!  How fun.

I'm sure I will be using these fast (15 min. or less) and cheap meals this weekend.

I love this photo, the colors make me happy.  I gotta say, I adore yarny lamp covers! All you pattern makers out their, where are the patterns for these bad boys?  I'm sure they aren't hard but my brain is all melty from the heat.

Thanks for stoppin' by and hangin' out.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Mutimedia *Blooming Art*

Hello, Hello. I hope you are all having a great week so far.  I have some fun things to tell you about before we get to our tutorial.
In July I am going to spend some time with my family up North. (Utah, Idaho areas).  While I am gone I have a great week of guest bloggers set up for you.

Photobucket

The posts are all about fun things to do, eat, make for the summer!  I'm really excited about this line up, I know you are all going to love it!

And as a special treat on July 13th we are going to have a big, huge, GIANT BIRTHDAY BASH!!!

 My birthday is in July and I missed my Blog Birthday in March {yeah, I'm a little slow} so I thought I would combine them into one big day.

I'm really excited about this event.  We are going to have a bunch of giveaways all in the same day. From some of your {and mine} favorite bloggers and from some of our favorite places. {more details to come}
I have a couple of more slots open.  So if you are interested in joining in the fun let me know in the comments or send me an e-mail at sevenalive7 (at) gmail (dot) com.

Alright enough business lets get to the craft for today.  My good friend Terry has had a series going on her blog called the Wheel of Life.  It has been a great series and has made me look at different parts of my life in a different light.
One of the areas she talked about was your Home Environment.  I do like our home however there are always things I would like to add.  She had this photo of a painting by Two Girls Being Crafty.

It was the insperation for this Multimedia art.

I have to say I kind of love it!

Wanna know how to make one?  Good.
First, I took white, purple, and dusty rose acrylic paint and swirled it all over my canvas.  I didn't take a photo of it because I didn't like the way it turned out.  So then I painted over that with white spray paint.
Then I took gray acrylic paint and a tooth pick and made the stems.

Then I made a couple of ric-rac roses.  {I have a full tutorial on that here.}  And pulled out my buttons and cabochons.

Stack up the buttons and cabochons on each other, and figure out your placement.
{this was the longest step for me}

Glue them all onto each other and onto the canvas with hot glue.

After I glued everything down, I got out the finest grain sand paper I had.  I started sanding until I could see the pink and purple showing though.

Then figure out a saying you want.  I put "bloom into who you are", I don't know who said it or if I heard it before.  I wanted something that would let my girls know that it is okay for them to be themselves. {It is going in their room} Also, if you notice none of the flowers are the same, however pretty in their own way.

I used black stickers to add my saying after I finished sanding off as much white as I wanted.
To keep my letters straight and evenly spaced I use tape.

When you get your letters on you might want to spray over them with a clear varnish.

Then you are done.

 Here are a few of my favorite "flowers" up close.

And one more finished painting.

What do you think?

Thanks for stoppin' by and hangin' out.

I will be linking up to these fantastic parties.

Another Thing Crossed off my To-Try List.

It should come as no surprise to you that I am a huge fan of handmade items.  I would much rather spend my money on something that someone made with their own two hands instead of a machine.
Along those lines metal stamped items are some of my favorites.  They can be beautiful and creative.  You can easily tell if something is hand stamped or lazer engraved.  {Hand stamped is never going to be perfect.}

I have ALWAYS wanted to try metal stamping.  A couple of weeks Pick Your Plum had metal stamping letters up for grabs. I'm sure you know what's coming next , yeah.... I bought some.
I have held on to them for a while now.  I was scared to use them.  Mostly I was scared to ruin the metal pieces I had.
This weekend I got over myself and made two pieces.

The first one is the "bookworm" necklace that I am giving away for the book link party.

The second piece I made with a washer from Home Depot.  I think it cost me all of 11 cents.  It is rougher than what you would buy from Hobby Lobby and thicker.  But it worked and I kind of like the more industrial look.

I accidantly stamped the U in Laugh upside down.  I almost tossed it as a fail, however the more I looked at it the more I like it.  It reminds me to laugh at myself more.  This one I am keeping for myself.  But I have an entire list of people I would like to make more for.  So I am adding metal stamping to my ever growing list of crafts I love, and crossing it off my to-try list.

I used this wonderful tutorial, from my friend Adrianne at Happy Hour Projects, to figure out what I was doing. If you have ever wanted to do any metal stamping you need to read this tutorial.  She spells it all out from what supplys you do and don't need, to how to line up your letters.

If you would like a chance a winning the "bookworm" necklace all you have to do is link up to the book link party going on now.  Every link up is an entry to our giveaway.

Ready, Set...., Read Party #1

It's time for the very first Ready Set.... Read Linky Party!  Jenny and I are so excited.  Are you ready? Good, we are too.

If you remember way back to the beginning of the month I told you I was going to read this book.

{source}

I don't want to spoil anything for anyone  so I'll just make a few point about the book.
If you love historical fiction or mysteries you will LOVE this book.
Ariana Franklin paints an amazingly accurate picture of England under the rule of Edward II, along with the persecution of the Jews at the time.  The book centers around the death of some children and the Dr.  that is charged with finding out who did it.  It's an extremely satisfying read. You know when you finish a book, and feel a little let down with the ending?  That doesn't happen with this book.
I am very glad I read this book and would happily recommend it to any of you.

I thought I would let you know what my kids are reading.  In case any of you have children looking for books this summer.

My 12 year old, is reading the 3rd book in the Kane Chronicles named The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan.
He has loved each of the books in the series so far. These books are based on Ancient Egyptian Mythology. From what he as told me they sound great.

My seven year old has just started The Secrets of Droon books.  She is almost done with the first book and has really enjoyed it.  These books are about a trio of children that find a secret passage way to a secret world. It is a lot of fun, and an easy chapter book she can read on her own.

And now for the giveaway.
This month we are giving away  an eyeglass case (made by Jenny). Perfect for keeping your reading/sunglasses in so you will be ready to read anywhere.

And a cabochon necklace with hand-stamped "bookwork" charm. (made by me.)

What do you do to enter the giveaway?  Just link up your book related post.  It can be a full book review, a craft related to a book you read, or a combo.  We are pretty easy going, here are our very simple rules.
