Crochet for the Summer?

Thoughts of winter months cuddled in warming yarn made crafts are what we think if when we hear the word crochet.  Warm afghans, scarfs and hats are the images that come to mind the most.  What about the summer months?  Of course you can prepare for winter. But why not make some fun summer crochet items instead? I'm sure you guessed that's what I have been doing.

Little Lotte Lou needed a summer hat.  I found this pattern  on Mon Peteit Violon for $3.99 and made this hat for her.

She wore it to the zoo this weekend.  It was great for keeping the sun out of her eyes.  Until she lost it.  Yep, it's gone.  If any of you are ever at the Caldwell Zoo in East Texas and you see a hat like this one let me know, okay.

I have made a hat for everyone in the family but Abba.  So, I had to fix that.  This pattern came from Yarn Blossom Boutique it was $4.99.

It is a loose pattern great for the summer.  It is adorable on her!

A spring scarf is always nice.  One that is more of an accessory than for warmth.  You can find the free tutorial for making this one here at Aesthetic Nest. (who is having a great series on learning to crochet)

I have been pretty pleased with the way my summer crocheting has been going.  So what about you?  Anything you have been crocheting or making for the summer?

Thanks for stoppin' by and hangin' out.

I will be linking up to these great parties and the ones on my party page.

Tag, Your It..... Blogger Style

Amy of One Artsy Mama "tagged" me last week.  Her blog is so fun, she always has great project for kiddos and is such a kind person.  Here is how being "tagged" works.

 RULES
**You must post the rules {?!}
**Answer the 11 questions that the tagger posted for you & then create 11 questions to ask the people you’ve tagged
**Tag 11 people and link them in your post
**Let them know you have tagged them

I am always game.  Fair warning though I really stink at answering questions about my self.  Here we go.

1. If you could have coffee with any one person, living or not, who would it be?

Well, I don't drink coffee. But I would LOVE to have a soda with Julia Child.  I think she led a very interesting life and would be interesting to get to know.

2. What is one quality you'd like to develop in yourself?

Patience. I tend to get frustrated quickly and react out of frustration more than I would like.

3. What talent do you wish you had?

Anything musical.  I can play a radio like you wouldn't believe but that is the extent of my musical ability.  I would really love to be able to sing but anything musical would be wonderful.

4. If you won the lottery {mega-millions}, what would you do with the money?

I would LOVE to buy us a house, pay off cars, and school.  We would put aside enough money for all of the kiddos to go on missions and college.  Then JP and I would go on an Alaskan cruise.

5. Which superpower would you choose: the ability to fly, the ability to read minds, or x-ray vision, and why?

I wouldn't want to read minds.  I DO NOT want to know what others are thinking! I wouldn't want to have x-ray vision.  I DO NOT want to see things covered by normal clothing.  So that leaves me with flying, hopefully that would mean I am very fast too.  Maybe I could get everything done that I want in one day.

6. Share a nickname you have and how you got it.

My favorite nickname I ever had is Lou-Lou.  My middle name is Lou. One of my favorite people I met in Boston would call me that all the time.

7. If you could close your eyes right now and be anywhere in the world, where would you choose?

In my mom and dad's kitchen, making dinner with my mom and sister, for our entire family.

8. What is your favorite season and why?

Spring! I get so excited when the gardening stuff starts to show up in the stores.  Everything is so new and colorful and pretty.

9. If you could only eat one dessert for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Source (and a very cute cannoli story)

I think it would have to be a really good cannoli.

10. Which sense would be the hardest for you to lose: sight, hearing, taste, or smell?  Why?

Most defiantly sight.  Most of the things I LOVE to do sewing, crocheting, crafting, and gardening require sight.  But the thought of not being able to see my kids faces or to see them grow and change is heartbreaking to me.

11. If you could relive one moment or day in your life, what would it be and why?

My wedding day.  I LOVED my wedding day.  I don't think anything could have made it better.  However I was so caught up in what was happening that it was hard to listen to everything.  I would love to go back and soak it all up again.

Tag, your it....... I am tagging.

Marija- Tousled Day

Karen- Sew La Vie

The Questions:

  1. What is the last book you read, or are currently reading?
  2. What is your all time favorite movie and why?
  3. Would you rather dress up and go out to eat or stay home?
  4. How much time do you spend on the computer a day?
  5. What is your favorite city or town, you have visited, and why?
  6. Are you a cake or pie person?
  7. If time, money, and kids were not a factor and you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
  8. You are on a beautiful beach, warm sun and sand.  Are you most likely to build a sand castle, or swim in the ocean?
  9. What is your favorite book?
  10. What is your favorite type of food, Italian, Mexican, or Chinese?
  11. What is your favorite drink?

Thanks again for tagging me Amy.  It was a lot of fun.  A word to those of you I tagged. If you would rather not participate, that is totally fine!  No pressure just fun.
If I didn't tag you and you would like to play along, I would love for you to leave your answers in the comments.

Bubble Magnets with Jessie Street Design

I traded buttons with Jenny of Jessie Street Designs this month.  You can read her Highlight Post to find out more about her.  I am really excited she is back today to share a project with us all.  Take it away Jenny.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Kadie!!  Thank you so much for sharing the mike with me - I'm so happy and excited to be here sharing a fun craft with you and your friends - it's totally made my day!  WHOOOHOOO!

So without further adieu, let's make some Bubble Magnets!  These are super cute and extremely easy and quick to put together.  Here's what you need:

Modge Podge

Small brush

Glue Gun

Glass Jems (I bought mine from Michaels, in the floral section)

Magnets

Scrapbook paper

Scissors

Step 1:

Place the glass jem on the scrapbook paper and cut around.

Make sure that the paper is cut to fit perfectly or a little tiny bit smaller than the glass gem.  Like so:

Step 2:

Modge podge the "right" (in this case, the flower) side of the paper and attach it to the bottom of the glass gem.  It will look cloudy, but don't worry, it will dry clear.  Let it sit for a bit.

Step 3:
Add a drop of glue to the back of the magnet and attach to the back of the magnet/paper.  Let it sit.

Voila...ALL DONE!!  It doesn't get much easier than that!   I think that these are so cute and would make a perfect hostess or teacher gift.  You can print pictures from your computer, use your initials or make your own seasonal magnets....the options are endless!!

Thanks again Kadie for having me today....it's been an absolute pleasure getting to know you and I truly appreciate all your support:)

Thanks so much Jenny.

Thanks for stoppin' by and hangin' out.

LINK IT UP THURSDAY #8

Hello lovelies.  It's a great day for a party.  I hope you are all ready, I know Terry and I are.
We do have one small matter of business to take care of before we start our party today.

Have you all noticed the new double word verification blogger has started using?  Terry and I agree it is unbelievably hard to read.  I usually have to enter the word verification at least twice to leave a comment. I know my eyes are bad but these verifications are ridiculous.   Adrianne from Happy Hour Projects did a post on how to turn it off.  She explained it  perfectly. (It is very easy to turn off if you know where to look.)  So, I am going to refer you to her post  here.  If you don't know if you have word verification enabled on your blog this will show you how to check.  Word verification doesn't show up if it is the blog author leaving the comment.  I hope you will all check it out and really consider taking word verification off.  In my opinion it is more of a deterrent from humans leaving you comments than robots. Adriane also has a great post on how to not be a non-reply commenter.  You can check that out here.

Okay, now that you have all turned your word verification off, LETS PAR-TAY!!  Before we get to this weeks party we get to see the BELLES of the ball from last week.  There were some really great projects last week!

The Hell on Heels Housewife (LOVE the name) made one of the cutest pallet pieces I have seen.  She calls it Pallet Perfection I think she is right!

Villabarnes made over an old sewing drawer.  It is amazing.  You have to check out the before and after shots.

Scraponique made these cute, fun, easy Crocheted Easter Eggs. She even shared her pattern. I think I might have to make a few dozen.

Country Mamma Cooks shared her recipe for Almond Cheese Danish.  We love, love, love cheese danish.  This one is on my to make list for this week.

Tousled Day made the best out of a cold snowy situation by making this frozen wreath.  It is so pretty, and a great way to look on the bright side.

GREAT JOB ladies!  Go ahead and grab yourself a Featured Button!  Face Book Features, make sure you get a button too. If you didn't get featured here head over to Terry's and see if she featured you.

This is a shared link party so if you link it up here it will show up on the fabulous Terry's blog These Peas Taste Funny.  We want to see everything you have to link up! Our Favorite Time Of Year.

It has been such mild winter.  Not as cold as other winters.  However it has been oddly gray.  The last few weeks it has rained so much that it has been hard to get outside. I don't know about you but the weather tends to affect my mood.  Over the last few weeks things have been so busy and the weather so gray that we have all been feeling a bit run down.
So, when yesterday turned out to be bright, rain free and beautiful we had to take full advantage of it.
This is my favorite time of year.  The smells and colors are invigorating.  It was exactly the kind of day we needed.

We headed out to the forest.

Where we found treasures and flowers.

Did tricks on the tramp.

Even stopped at the garden and weeded the strawberry's.  Lots more work to be done.

The roses the girls and I got from JP for V-day have been great for brightening up the house.

I hope you are having bright beautiful days.

Thanks for stoppin' by and hangin' out.

Mighty Macs DVD Review and Giveaway

This Giveaway Is Now Closed

I have told y'all before how much we like movies here at the double wide.  We have movie night almost every Friday.  The kiddos look forward to it all week long.  In fact it's how I taught Oak the days of the week.  We started with Friday (movie night).
We do run into a problem every now and again.  It can be hard finding family friendly movies. So I was very excited when I was asked to watch and review movie The Mighty Macs.
Carla Gugino, who plays Coach Cathy Rush, is great in this movie.  I loved her in Spy Kids and Mr. Popper's Penguins.  She is one of my favorite family friendly actresses, and she did not disappoint in The Mighty Macs.
It is rated G and was totally family friendly. No language, I don't want the kiddos hearing. Nothing inappropriate at all.  By the end of the movie the kiddos especially Abba were cheering right along with the movie for the Might Macs.   I always love a movie that is based on a true story like this one.  Warm fuzzies were had by all who watched. The youngest kiddos (2&1 year olds) didn't watch to much of it.  I really liked how strong the main character was and how she taught the players to be strong as well.

I am doubly excited that I get to give one DVD of The Mighty Macs movie to one of you lovely people.   Here is a little of what the movie is about.

It's 1971. Cathy Rush is a woman ahead of her time ... and she's about to embark on an adventure for the ages. A new era is dawning in the country and in collegiate athletics, where a national champion will be crowned for the first time in women's basketball.
In the lead up to this historical season, major universities are preparing their game plans to win that first title. Meanwhile a tiny all-women's Catholic college in Philadelphia has a more modest goal: find a coach before the season begins. Providentially, Cathy Rush is about to find Immaculata College.

Recently married, Cathy is dealing with the aftermath of a truncated playing career. While cultural norms would have her staying at home, she's willing to do the hard work necessary to help her new team reach their goals—or perhaps she's just trying to achieve her unfulfilled dreams through them.

From the beginning, her challenges are as imposing as the big-school teams Immaculata will face on the court. Cathy learns there is no gymnasium on campus, she receives little support from the school's Mother Superior, and the school is in dire financial straits. To top it off, she may not even have enough players to field a team!

While it appears the Macs don't have a prayer, all hope is not lost. With the help of Sister Sunday—a spunky assistant coach—and the support of a booster club of elderly nuns, Coach Rush creates a new game plan that just might bring the team—and the school—together.

Will this pioneer buck cultural norms and spur her rag-tag team to unexpected heights? Or will her hard-driving ways create a wedge between the coach and everyone around her? One thing's for certain: there's never been anyone like Cathy Rush at Immaculata!

You can find The Might Macks on Facebook, and twitter.

If you would like to win a DVD copy of The Mighty Macks here what you need to do.

Thank you to all of you who entered. This giveaway is now closed.
