String Wrapped Snowflakes

If you caught my post last week you know that some of us are teaming up again to help out the Sandy area as they move the students to a new school.

The Connecticut PTSA has announced that have stopped accepting snowflake donations. Instead, they have asked that we create winter wonderlands in our own community as a show of solidarity for the families of Newtown.

Thank you to everyone who has donated snowflakes on behalf of the children of Sandy Hook Elementary School and the community of Newtown. We know that each snowflake represents the emotional outreach of the person making it. We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of generosity from around not just the country but the world. At this time, we have enough beautiful snowflakes to blanket the community of Newtown. Therefore, with regret we must close the snowflake project to further donations. Please take this idea and your snowflakes and create a winter wonderland of your own in your community as a show of solidarity for our Newtown families. Please share your winter wonderlands with us. We would love to share your pictures with the families of Sandy Hook and all the other participating communities. Also please read the message below from the PTA of the Sandy Hook Elementary School for another wonderful way to help. Thank you for your heartfelt and amazing creations and for all of your magnificent notes and kind wishes for the Newtown community.

So instead of having a link party and sending our snowflakes to Newtown we will be hanging our snowflakes in our home with the other snowflakes we made before Christmas in honor of the Sandy Hook Elementary School. 

We made some paper ones like we did in this post.  Then we made some out of craft sticks.

The first one is just mini craft sticks with glue and glitter on them.

The second one I wraped string around.

It's such an easy craft that I didn't take photos of each step but I'll tell you how you can make your own.

I wrapped each craft stick in embroidery floss, gluing the ends down with craft glue.  After I wrapped the sticks I spread sparkle glue all over the top of the string.  Then I took mini white pom-poms and hot glued them to the edges.  I hot glued the sticks onto each other and added one more mini pom-pom to the middle of my snowflake.  I added a little extra string to the top of the snowflake, with hot glue, to make it easier to hang.
