I have a very easy decoration to get you and your kiddos in the mood for Turkey day. First I have a confession, it should go something like this " Hi my name is Kadie and I have an addiction to Washi Tape. It's been 2 hours since the last time I used. I have washied everything from windows to books, I even washied my cell phone (that one didn't turn out so well). " I'm sure you get the idea I REALLY like Washi tape!
So we are making a Washi Turkey! Yay!! As I said it's very easy, you can even get the kids in on the washi fun.
I found my wooden Thanksgiving Turkey at Hobby Lobby for only a couple of dollars.
You could use acrylic paint to paint your turkey body and Thanksgiving sign but I wanted something really easy for all of us to do together.
So we used the plethora of markers we have lying around our house. I used a darker brown for the wings, and a lighter brown for the body and head, orange for the beak, red for the gobbler, yellow for the buckle on the hat, and a large black sharpie for the hat, shirt collar, and outline of the Thanksgiving sign.
You can't get in every little nook and cranny with the markers but I was going for kind of a rustic look so I'm okay with that. If you are not okay with that, you might want to use paint.
Take out all of the metal pieces "holding" the feathers. This will make it easier to cover the feathers.
Cover your feathers with the washi tape of your (or your child's) choosing. Let the tape over lap the edges of the feather. Cut that back down with a small pair of scissors or exacto knife.
After you have covered all the feathers replace any hardware you may have taken out. You may need to use a pair of pliers to twist them back together.
That's all, take a step back and admire your cute, colorful turkey that you made with your kids.
