Caramel Apple Overload

Have you ever had the really big Caramel, Chocolate covered apples?   I love them and every fall I get a craving for one.  I don’t live close to a chocolate store so I had to come up with my own.

I’m so glad I did! They are fantastic!

Yes I’m a little excited {and maybe a little strung out on sugar} so please excuse the excess of excitation points.

I know you want to make some!  Here’s what I did.

First you need some caramel.  You can do this one of two ways.  You can buy caramel and melt it or you can make your own.  I was to impatient to wait to get to the store so, I made my own.  I used this recipe/tutorial.  It’s a good recipe tasty and easy {well as easy as homemade caramel can be}.

If  I were to do this again I would use green apples.  After the apples are dipped in everything they are very sweet, so the sour contrast would be nice.

Dip your apple in the caramel, you can either put a skewer in the apple or just use the apple stem.

Let them cool on a sil-pat or waxed paper.

I didn’t take photos of the next steps.  I got a little sticky.  But next I dipped the apple in melted milk chocolate, let that dry on the sil-pat/wax paper.  Then dip the apple in melted white chocolate that you have added food coloring to, to make orange.  Then roll the bottom in a cinnamon and sugar mixture.  I used 1 cup of sugar to 3 TBS of cinnamon, and had plenty left over.

While the chocolate was still warm I swirled one apple to give it a marbled affect.  After the other one dried I “painted” on a Jack-o-Lantern face.

Cut them up and enjoy.  You might want to share with someone.
Now with all your left over caramel {if you made your own} you can cut them up and wrap them in wax paper.  So yummy.
Thanks for stoppin’ by and hangin’ out.

Sounds like fun! and I hope I won’t make them unless I have a houseful of company to eat them. I think they’d be pretty dangerous for me to have in the house if I’m home alone!! :-)
