Crocheted Earrings *Tutorial*

In looking though magazines and around the Internet I keep seeing cute earrings that looked like they had been crocheted.  And, as we all do from time to time, I thought I can totally make that!

I also thought it could be a great way to use some outdated hoop earrings I had laying around.

Here's what I came up with.  It's easy enough that you can do it too.  If you need a more basic tutorial (like help for holding your yarn and such) I have a tutorial for that here.

I will write out the entire pattern at the end of the post.

What you will need:
  • lightweight hoop earrings (in a size you like)
  • Size 8 (1.50 mm) hook or the right size hook for the thread you choose.
  • Crochet Thread, I used size 10 thread you can go with thinner thread I wouldn't go thicker.
  • Scissors

You are going to start  by crocheting a single crochet around the earring.
To do this- place thread under the earring with the hook on one side and  your finger on the other.

Hook the thread and pull it through the loop on the hook.

To continue put the hook under the earring and hook your thread.

Pull the thread around the earring now you have two loops on your hook.  Hook the thread and pull it through both loops on your hook.

It should look like this.

Continue around the earring.  You might have to push the crocheted thread around the earring to make sure it is even.
You could leave it like this.  I kind of like it.

But we are going to guild the lilly today.

Continue by chaining one and then you turn the earring.   You will be working in the stitches you just made.

Chain three, skip one stitch on the earring, then one single crochet.  Repeat until the end of the earring.

Tie off the end and work in your thread and your done.

What do you think?  Would you wear them?

Here's the pattern.
Crocheted Earrings by Seven Alive
Single Crochet around earring until you it is as full as you want it to be.
Chain one and turn the earring. Single Crochet in next stitch.
*Chain three, skip one stitch on the earring, single crochet in next stitch*
Repeat from * to * to the end of the earring.
Tie off and weave in ends.

Thanks for stoppin' by and hangin' out.
I will be linking up to these fantastic parties.

These are so cute, and I would totally wear them! I have several pairs of hoop earrings that I don't wear anymore, so I'm going to give this a try. I have some thread that has small beads in it, think it would look great for this project. Thanks for sharing how you made them :)

I would definitely wear these earrings. They are so sweet and the crochet pattern looks a lot easier than I would have thought.

I don't wear hoop earrings, but I am totally seeing this as a necklace with something inside the hoop, maybe a small photo frame.
Great Job!
