Chocolate Covered Fireworks

How do you make a treat better?  How do you make anything better?  Add chocolate to it!
I've been on a bit of a 4h of July/patriotic kick lately.  You could of course make these in any color if you wanted them for some other type of party.

I think they look like fireworks.  They are a fast easy treat.  Really the hardest thing about them is waiting for the chocolate to dry.  I'll show you what I mean.

I found some star shaped marshmallows at Wal-Mart.

You could use round ones or cut out what ever shape you want.

To make colored coconut: take a few handfuls of coconut place in a baggie with a couple of drops of food coloring, close baggie.  Smooch around in the baggie until the color is even. Pour out on a cookie sheet.

I like to use Almond Bark for covering things in chocolate.  I find it is the easiest to work with.

It comes in a big block.  Cut off a chunk and cut that into smaller chunks.  They don't have to be very small just so they will melt evenly.  Place the chopped almond bark in a microwave safe bowl.  I usually use my shallow Pyrex glass bowl.
Microwave on high for 30 seconds. Take it out and stir.
Microwave for another 30 seconds. Take it out a stir.
Then microwave in 10 second interval's until chocolate is smooth.  Remember to stir after every 10 seconds.

I dipped half the marshmallow in the chocolate then in the colored coconut.  Place them on a wax paper covered cookie sheet to dry.
It should only take 10 minutes or so.  You'll know when it is done when the chocolate is hard.

I put mine on a skewer then put a cute paper straw over the skewer.

Aren't they fun?! What do you like to cover in chocolate?  Are you making anything fun  for the 4th?

Thanks for stoppin' by and hangin' out.

I will be linking up to these fantastic parties.

Don't forget about the book link party coming at the end of the month! You can read more about it here.
