4th of July Yarn Wreath

I don't "do" wreaths usually.  The only other time I have had a wreath up this year was for Christmas.  Because it was on the outside of the front door it got a little banged up. That's why it was the first decoration to be taken down.
Having said all that.  Have you seen the adorable yarn wreaths?  Soooo cute and easy, I couldn't get it out of my head to make one, so I broke down and bought a wreath form.

*Be warned if you are making a yarn wreath try to find a smooth foam form.  Or even make your own out of newspaper.  Because it was the only one my store had I ended up with a green form that you would push fake flowers in and the yarn looooves to stick to it and is hard to make smooth.*

I found my form at Wal-Mart.  The yarn in the photo is not what I used for the wreath.  I this yarn on hand and was hoping to use it.  But with the form I had the thin yarn was not working.  It was almost a crafting fail. But a quick run to the store fixed the problem.  I used  Hometown USA Lion Brand Yarn
it is a super chunky yarn (number 6) and made it much easier to cover the form. The red yarn in the middle is the Hometown you can see how much thicker it is.

I used tape to divide the wreath form into threes.  Then just covered the tape with yarn.

After I covered the form with yarn, I made pinwheels out of 2inch by 2inch white card stock paper.  In the middle of each pinwheel I attached a cabochon flower with hot glue.  Then attached them to the blue yarn with hot glue.

 For the words I used chip board (a little like cardboard) round  tags.   I spelled out "Let Freedom Ring" with black stickers.

I crocheted the tags into the twine before gluing it on.

  I know this is getting a little long, but I want to show you how to crochet the tags into the twine.
It's very simple.  I used a C (2 mm) crochet hook, depending on the thickness of your twine you may need a different size hook.
You will crochet a chain of 10 - 20 depending on how wide your wreath is.  When you get to where you want your letter to be you will put your hook though the hole in the tag. (make sure you use a hook that will fit though the hole in your tag)

 Hook the twine

 and pull it though the tag hole.

Hook your twine one more time and pull it though the two loops on the hook.

TaaaaaDaaaa!

 Now  chain until you are ready for the next letter.  Remember you are going to spell your words backwards  so you can read them the right way.

Glue the twine words on with hot glue.

I used a 1 inch piece of Ric-Rac to hang it from.

 I think this is my favorite wreath so far.  I can't wait to make another one.
