Congrats ladies I will be sending you both an e-mail asap.
If you have been a long time reader of Seven Alive you may remember when I participated in the Retro Pillow Challenge. Not to pat myself on the back or anything but......., I tied for second place in that challenge. It was the first and only challenge I have entered. Well, until now that is, I have officially entered the "I will wear it in Public" challenge.
The challenge is to sew a garment (not an accessory) that you would be proud to wear in public. For the longest time I have wanted to make myself a skirt. I have even bought fabric (twice) and a pattern. So when I saw the challenge for this month I thought "It's perfect now I HAVE to make me something!" The garment can be simple or complicated as long as you are trying something new. Like putting in a zipper or sewing on a different type of fabric. Well having only ever made an apron and a little girl dress from a pattern EVERYTHING about this challenge will be new for me. Oh my, what have I gotten myself into?!
At first I was thinking about making a skirt, then I thought if I am going to do this I might as well really push myself. In true "Texas" fashion I am going into this challenge with the motto of: "GO BIG OR GO HOME"!
To that end here is what I am thinking I am going to make. When I was pregnant (you would be surprised how many stories start that way) with my last baby, Little Lotte, I had a dress that looks very much like this one. Mine was also from Old Navy.
So.............. I am going to try to make me a similar maxi dress. I know, sooooooo scary! Remember, NO clothing sewing experience here. If it turns into a huge mess, which it very easily could, I will most likely return to the skirt idea. Here are a few other Maxi Dresses that I hope my dress will resemble in some small way.
After all the stripes in the photos, I'm sure it comes as no surprise that the knit fabric I found is striped. Karen and Rikka are putting on this challenge. They are fantastic and so much fun if you are interested in joining the fun you can go here to enter and read all the details. You don't have to have a blog to enter, so don't be afraid go enter. Thanks for stoppin' by and hangin' out.
