Buck-a-roo vest

Today is middle monster's birthday.

He is in love with Toy Story and he loves homemade stuff.

So made him a cowboy vest and hat.

The tutorial and pattern for the vest is here.

The hat was fun to make.

I bought the hat plain and added all the felt and yarn.

The hat is made out of foam.

For the vest I made it out of white felt and then cut out black "cow spots" and sewed them on.

He gave it two thumbs up! In fact he hasn't taken it off all day!

Happy Birthday BUCK-A-ROO!!

I love this time of year!!!

I love this time of year!

Did I already say that?

Well it is true.

The flowers, the warm yet cool weather, planting things.

You get the idea.

Their are so many reasons that I love this season.

Do you want to see the #1 reason?

Jelly Beans!!!!

Not just any jelly beans.

Starburst jelly beans.

Have you tried them?

They are wonderful!

My favorite are the pink ones!!!

They only have them around for Easter.

So you can be like me, get hooked and stock pile them every year at Easter.

Carefully rationing out every bean to make them last..... about a week. (no matter how many bags you by)

Then think about them all year until they come out again.

Just like spring!

Happy Spring

Love,

Kadie

My Garden

So we have lived in the south for 4 years now.
I love to have a garden but have been very intimidated to plant one here.
The soil and weather is so much different than anything I have ever known before.
Well this year I bit the bullet and planted.

My honey's family has raised garden's and they said I could use one of them.
They haven't been planted in for about 8 years.
So it was a little over grown.

So I dug it all out. Put some soil back in and planted away. My box is 12'x4'.

Right now it looks like a bunch of dead sticks.
I did use sticks to mark my rows.
But some of the dead looking sticks are raspberry and blackberry bushes.
I am very excited to see if anything grows.

I will keep you updated.

Favorite Bread

I have an unhealthy love of bread.

It's true, I'll admit it.

This home made french bread is one of the best I have ever tried.

The best thing about it is how easy it is to make it!!!
It turns out every time. Golden outside and soft inside.
It also freezes great.
And with a little mayo and some ham makes the most amazing sandwich ever.
Your lunches will never be the same!
Great now my mouth is watering. I think I need to make more.

Easy French Bread

by Crystal Saulls (a lady my sis knows) or as seen here on Mels Cafe

2 1/4 c. warm water
2 TBSP sugar
2(1TBSP) pkg. yeast
1 TBSP salt
2 TBSP soft shortening
6c. Flour

Combine warm water and sugar in large mixing bowl. Sprinkle yeast over top; allow to soften. Add salt, shortening, and 3 cups flour. Stir well with big spoon. Add remaining flour; stir well. Leave spoon in batter; let dough rest 10 minutes. Stir again and lest rest 10 minutes. Repeat process until dough has been stirred 5 times. Turn dough unto floured board; kneed 2 or 3 times. Divide into 2 equal parts. Roll each part into 9x13 rectangle. Roll dough up (long side); pinch edge to seal. Arrange both loaves, seam side down, on pan. Cover lightly; allow to rise 30 minutes. Cut 3 Gashes at angle into each loaf. Brush with egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 TBSP water). Bake 30 minutes in preheated 400 oven. If Desired, sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds.

Baby outfit redo

With 5 kiddos I am always trying to make their clothes last as long as possible. Baby bug got this outfit and it must have shrunk because the top fits fine but the legs are tight and short. So I figured that I would cut it apart and see what I could do.

So here is what we are starting with.
I cut it pretty low,

and hemmed that. Cute little shirt.
Then I thought maybe I could make some shorts. I measured some knit a little wider than I would need it and sewed that into a tube. Remember you want to cut the length quit a bit shorter than the hole.

Pin that on. I like to start in at the back in the middle then pin the front and the sides. I know it looks all smooched but remember the ribbing will stretch a lot.
Then sew that on remember that you only want to stretch the piece you are adding.

Now you could stop here if you think it is tight enough to stay up. I added a small elastic. You just need to sew a pocket big enough for your elastic. Here is a tip my mama tough me. Get a pin (like the one in the photo) attach it to the end of your elastic before you start to feed it though. It makes it so much easier.

Now you have little shorts.

Baby bug is cutting teeth and was in no mood to be photographed. It fit her so much better and she looked very cute. You will just have to take my word for it this time.

Roses and Daisies

I planted these roses and daisies by our front door. I am hopping it will cover up the ugly skirting. I am loving the daisies! Here is a up close of them!

Aren't the purple centers beautiful!

I went back to get more but they were out. I would like to plant a bunch more next year.

Name T-shirts

So you have so many children you don't know what to do?

Do you ever call one by the wrong name.

No? Well, we will let you have a pass for the day.

I came up with a solution for the rest of us.

Name T-shirts!!

Just kidding I never call my children by someone else name!

Ok, maybe once.

Actually I saw the inspiration for these a while ago. But never made them untill I saw the

contest at I am Mamma hear me Roar. (Have you been on her blog? It is amazing!)

I of course did it differently.

I used Toy Story fabric. Both of the youngest monsters love Toy Story. I made an 'O' by

tracing a bowl.

Then I put heat and bond on the back. This is what the heat and bond looks like. After you iron it on you peal off the paper and iron it on the shirt.

You don't have to stitch it on after you use the heat and bond but I think, in this application, it

looks better.

Then I stitched his name in the middle. I used embroidery floss.

For Oakley I free handed it because I wanted it to look like something he could have done.

For Wyatt I did it on the computer so that it would be straighter.

I had tie dyed Wyatt's shirt before. I had all of the supplies at home and used shirts they

already had so it was free and the boys kept saying "I love my new shirt." I think that is

fantastic!

Maybe now I will keep there names straight.

T-shirt pull over

I love I am mama hear me roar! She always has such cute ideas. So when I saw this idea I wanted to see if I could manage it.
This is the shirt I started with. I didn't make the same thing she did but the original tutorial can be found here.

This is what we ended up with. I know my model looks super happy to have it. He really does like it. I promise!

It was a fun project, didn't take too long. Now the oldest monster wants one.
