I'm Your HuckleBerry.

 Do you ever see something and just know that you are going to have to make something with it?  I mean you drop everything you are doing so you can make your version of what you just saw?  Yeah, me too.  So when I saw this quote on a shirt on pinterest I dropped everything and made my own.

It comes from my favorite movie Tombstone. The 1993 version with Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday.

There are several quotes in the movie that I love but this one is my favorite.  Doc says to the "bad guy" "I'm your huckleberry" when getting ready to have a gun fight. (I was going to put a clip on but couldn't find a G-rated one). If you want to see a clip you can google it and a bunch will come up.

Anyhow, when I saw the quote on the shirt I thought I could make something like that for my home.

I am not sure if I have told you all before, my husbands obsession with movies.

He has a dream of living in a movie theater.  No, not really. He has a dream of owning a movie theater. Yes, really! So he has done his best to transform our living room into the movie theater of his dreams.  I fought it for a while.  Now I just go with it.  And apparently, I am adding to it.  I figure I might as well have some of my favorite movies represented.

So here's what I did. I knew that I had an old piece of wood hangin' around.  I pulled it out and painted it with a sample of Behr paint in Sandstone.  Then very lightly painted a small amount of green and blue acrylic paint in random spots.

Then I painted over the entire piece in the Sandstone again.  I sanded and distressed the piece before I added words.


Then I printed out the words and mustache on my home computer.  Making sure to flip the wording.  I used picnik.  Cut it out and place it face down on the piece of wood.  "Paint" the back of the paper with water. Then using the end of the paintbrush rubbed over the ink.

The "H" in the photo above is done.  This will cause some of the ink to transfer to your piece of wood.

Some of the ink transfer was very light so I went back over it with watered down black acrylic paint.  Then the light bulb went off and I started using the kiddos water paint.  It worked just as well, and it's cheap and easy!

I sanded over the words a little after.  We are going for an old western look here.

Almost finished.  I just need to put a wire through it to hang it.

 All finished. I decided that I wanted to add the goatee after all.  I didn't have any wire so I took an old wire hanger from my closet, clipped the "hanger" part off and used that to hang it.

Want to know one of the best things about the project.  It was FREE! That's right I had everything on hand. All it cost me was time and it didn't take much of that.
