T-Shirt Bag

I have a real treat for you today!!  My amazingly, talented, super sweet niece is sharing an awesome tutorial for us all today.  I am home (in Texas) with my mom that I don't get to see often enough.  We are playing with the kiddos, making freezer jam, and sewing.  I am in heaven.  I wish she could be closer.  But, back to the post today.  As I said my niece who, you will see at the end of the post is beautiful, was kind enough to agree to do a post for me so I could enjoy more time with my mom and kiddos.  I am honored that she chose to do her first blog post here.

For Girls Camp this year my young women's group made T-Shirt Bags. It was so simple.
We just took an old T-Shirt that we didn't care about any more and cut off the neck band, sleeves and hem.  Next, measure down the inside of the shoulder 6 inches (where the neck was cut off) on both sides and then cut across, cutting out a square-ish shaped piece.

Then, turn inside out and fold the bottom of the sides in about 2 1/2 in. at an angle, as shown in the picture. Sew along the bottom. Then move up a little and sew another line, making sure to catch the fabric that you folded in.

This will make pleats in the bag.  Shown below.

Last, get the handles and fold each edge into the middle over lapping a little. Then sew along the seam on both sides.  This will strengthen your handles.

Turn it right side out and your done!! If you want, you can decorate the bag with fabric paint like I did on the pocket.

Cute!

So cute!!!  Great job M.  I think I need to make a bag for the kiddos.  I hope you are all having a great week.
You can click on any of the photos to make them bigger if you need to.

Thanks for hangin' out!
