Big Two Year Old

Things have been so crazy around here the last week and a half!!!  I had a wonderful time in Utah with my mom and sister.  The weather was perfect.  The first thing I always do when I am back north (in the summer) is take my shoes off and walk around on the grass.  It is HEAVEN!  Another post with more on that to come.

Our 4th of July was great.  Other than the fact that we are under a burn ban and so we couldn't light off fireworks at home.  The kiddos were bummed about that.  But our BBQ was yummy.

Yesterday was my baby boy's birthday.  He is now two.  It makes me a little weepy every time I think of how big he is getting.  He was a 9 pound 12 ounce baby.  It wasn't the easiest thing to get him here.  But his sweet spirit and laughter is worth every stretch mark and tare. I don't want to even try to imagine our family with out him.  Isn't he cute!!

So I had to make him a cake of course.  I usually make my kid's birthday cakes. This year I wanted to do something I hadn't done before and stretch my skill level a little.

The boy loves Mickey Mouse!!!  So the day started with Mickey Mouse pancakes and ended with this homemade Mickey Mouse cake.  I found the pan at a garage sale for a dollar.  The "W" on the sleeve is for Wyatt my son's name.

I have never frosted a cake like this.  My mom gave me a little instruction and the pipping tip and I was off.  It was a little time consuming but not as bad as I thought it would be.
It is not perfect and I learned things that I would do different next time.  But over all I LOVE it!!
And so did he!!  Which is all the really matters on the big day!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIG MAN!!!!

I'm curious what you would do differently on the cake because it looks fabulous. I'm sure he was thrilled. I always remember the cool cakes my mom used to make for us - it's such a big deal for kids. Such a good mom. :)

My kids birthdays were always celebrated with a cake I made. Some years they were pretty bad, but other years they were outstanding. My oldest son is now 32 and HE is the birthday cake decorator in his family! See, the memories and guidance pays off.

You did a great job, but they understand when things don't turn out perfectly and they love you for trying. Your little man is just precious. Can't wait till to see pics of him helping you in the kitchen!

The cake looks amazing! I've made my fair share of piped cakes and my wrists hurt just looking at it. ;) You did a fantastic job! Thanks for sharing.
