T.V. Tray to Activity Table

I love to re-purpose things.  My MIL has started giving me her old things to see if I can do anything with them.

This is the latest "thing" she wanted to see if I could fix up.

An old T.V. tray.  It is pretty plain. But has a cool tray that props up.

But really what person with children has time to sit in bed and watch T.V.?   So it was time to make it into something we could use.

Here we are at the half way mark.  I know it looks terrible.  Don't worry it will get better! I had spray painted it all cream.  Then went over it with a dark wood stain.  Then the kids and I banged on it with a hammer to get some nice dents in it.  Then we spray painted the whole thing cream again and,  sanded it and dry brushed some gray on.  Then the magic happened!

We made the lifting tray into a chalkboard.

And covered the open "legs" with paper. I put about 6 coats of mod podge on the paper to protect it and make it stronger.  Then I had to make some cute bags to put the chalk and crayons in.  And an eraser. The frog fabric is the eraser.  It is a new cloth diaper covered in fabric and sewed together.  It was left over from when I made burp rags for baby bug.

And there you have it a portable activity table that any chocolate covered face kid will love!

Good for coloring in a coloring book or drawing with chalk.

And because it is open at both sides more than one can draw at a time.

The only thing I bought for this project was the chalkboard paint and chalk.  I have most of it left over.  I spent around $5.00. I am looking forward to using the rest of the chalkboard paint!
Thanks for hangin' out.
